For my final degree project I decided to recall memories from my childhood living in an old farmhouse on top a hill next to a nature reserve. With hand drawings from visits and photographs I recorded these memories into the prints of my final garment collection to create something that would be emotionally durable, and that my friends, family and I could connect to. In this collection I wanted to encourage an appreciation of craft and recycling, and consider the environmental impact of my designs by making prints that can be used on a garment, but once worn out, can then be cut up and made into something new. The 'make a bird' top holds the patterns for 4 different types of birds, and a 'build a house' skirt, when cut up, can be sewn into a miniature model of the old farmhouse. Two of the dresses are also reversible revealing a different pattern on each side. As this collection is largely inspired by nature, the colour palette is also derived from nature. Using my own naturally dyed yarns, I have embroidered into prints, the model house, and the fabric birds giving each one its own unique character.
